Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplaceable spark, in the hopeless swamps of the approximate, the not-quite, the not-yet, the not-at-all. Do not let the hero in your soul perish, in lonely frustration for the life you deserved, but have never been able to reach. Check your road and the nature of your battle. The world you desired can be won. It exists, it is real, it is possible, it is yours. - Ayn Rand

Waterboard this
This is a big joke. It's NOT torture and saying it is does a disservice to actual torture.
The notion too that if we torture our own may be tortured is total B.S. The other "side" doesn't wear uniforms, bombs women and children, cuts off heads and burns bodies. Torture is the least of our worries. What a joke our so-called "leaders" have become.
It's also a complete lie that torture doesn't work. It does, which is why it's been around for thousands of years. Ask the Chinese.
Pulling the Veil Back and Putting it On
But, the threats were never really real, were they? Women standing up to a patriarchal society with protests and op-eds and books with the consequences of these bold actions ranging from strange looks to maybe NOT getting what you want. But, if you complain and whine loud enough, well The Man will give in.
And so, here we are 30-40 years later and the veil has been pulled back to reveal: not so tough or committed after all. The years of privilege have made so-called feminist weak. But I suspect they were probably weak to begin with. It is much easier and safer to rail against a system in which you know you are protected-- that you can say or do anything and the greatest harm that will likely befall you is a short jail stint in a Western prison.
Now, in the world of hajibs and Mohammad teddy bears and women rape and then being punished for it by stoning/lashing/death in Middle Eastern countries, the "feminists" are silent. "We have no comment" says NOW after the Mohammad incident in Sudan.
The consequences of standing up to the patriarchal societies of the Middle East are extremely dire and the penalty severe. Any woman who would stand up to these "morality" thugs would surely be needing the support and courage from Western women who, in the safe confines of a liberal society, fear nothing, sacrifice nothing and offer nothing to help their sisters suffering across the pond.
Rather, the feminist "movements" of today are more concerned with filling their coffers and beating the same old "Man" and living in the past of 30 years ago -- singing their own praises, complaining about the same 'ol so-called inequalities and patting themselves on the back for a job well done.
I guess I shouldn't be too hard on them. Even though the risks taken weren't so risky, they still believed they were. That's what Dorothy thought too. That her big journey was risky and the wizard was greater and more powerful than he was. But when she pulled back the curtain, she saw a wrinkly little old man. When we pull back the veil on the feminist, we see nearly the same thing -- a wrinkly little old woman who would rather have women leave the veil on, sit down and shut up.
For Dorothy, it was all a dream. For the women living in oppressive Islamist-fascism, it's a nightmare in which they never escape.
RIP little one. Will feminists denounce her murder?

911 Conspiracy: a Super Duper Plot to De-Fang IslamoFascism?
Wow. What a truly ingenious way to pull the prayer rug right out from under the IslamoFascist feet. All this chatter about BushCo knowing, bombs detonating the Twin Towers and Building 7 to "melt steel" and that's what really brought them down and Osama working for the CIA and the 19 so-called "hijackers" are really alive and well and living in Australia, Saudi Arabia and all countries in-between-- it could all be a big patriotic push to suck the wind out of the Islamos' sails who claim victory for, and are emboldened by, the 911 murders in NYC, DC and PA. Think about it.
If the Truthers can inform the world that the US is TRULY powerful in all ways and ALL things by educating them that 911 was an inside job perpetrated by the imperialist Americans, perhaps it will demoralize and deflate the ethos and egos of those strapping suicide bombs to their chests, beheading journos and innocents, bombing shops and cafes, assassinating elected officials and Coalition soldiers, taking over schools and rigging them with bombs, stoning women and mutilating and silencing them.
Besides, none of these things were happening BEFORE the "blood for oil" campaigns in Afghanistan and Iraq, right? Because after all, America is responsible for everything-- even the twisted, septic tank that is the Middle East.
911 Truthers: Keep it up. Spread the word. Deflate the bravado of the IslamoFascists and maybe we can all get back to holding hands and singing kumbaya like we were pre-911 when only people in other countries were being slaughtered.

Feminist? Phooey!

Ms. Speaker knows her place.
And now, something from a real feminist and freedom fighter:

In the midst of several questions about the role of women in an Islamic society, Fallaci charged that the chador was symbolic of the segregation into which women have been cast by the revolution. “They have to take a dip apart in their chadors,” she said. “By the way how do you swim in a chador?” “Our customs are none of your business,” Khomeini answered. “If you do not like Islamic dress, you’re not obliged to wear it because Islamic dress is for good and proper young women.” “That’s very kind of you,” said Fallaci. And since you said so, I’m going to take off this stupid, medieval rag right now.” When she did so, recounts Fallaci, Khomeini got up “like a young cat” and left the room without saying a word. Khomeini, however, agreed to see her again the next day.

Laugh Tracks. Laugh Signs. And other unfunny things.
Watch any sitcom and you'll notice the comedic "experts" insert laugh tracks at various "laugh points" throughout the program. I've noticed a recent upsurge in "laughs" at cracks about people who work at fast food joints, Wal-Mart or are clerks, baggers, gardeners, janitors, etc. What's with the elite condescension?
Seriously, what's so funny about any of these occupations? They're needed. They're worthy. And they deserve a lot more respect and a lot less disdain from the so-called "betters" of society. This conditioning to think ill of those who labor hard and long is troubling. A slow and constant drip drip drip of making people who hold these positions (and there are millions) feel like 2nd, 3rd class people is in line with the Hindi Caste system wherein it's perfectly acceptable to minimize another's station in life because that's their karma, life lesson. No wonder so many people are so miserable. The upper caste is pointing their finger and laughing at you.
!LAUGH!
The studio audience bit is a complete farce. You're prepped before the show to laugh out loud and clap when the sign flashes to do so. Like a bunch of trained seals. And yet, folks at home, while watching lets say the very unfunny, mean, acerbic and downright miserable Bill Mahr's Sur"Real" Life Show, will think "hey what he and his guest are saying is funny and insightful and everyone seems to agree and because everyone in the audience is laughing and clapping and having a good time", I must think and laugh the same.
And so, the conditioning of the viewer to think and behave as the "artists" want them to in this new age of "progressives" and moral relativism and there is no evil, save BushCo and the folks who clean your toilets and wash your cars...

Now, THIS isn't Convenient
Excerpted from National Geographic article:
Simultaneous warming on Earth and Mars suggests that our planet's recent climate changes have a natural—and not a human-induced—cause, according to one scientist's controversial theory.
Earth is currently experiencing rapid warming, which the vast majority of climate scientists says is due to humans pumping huge amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
Mars, too, appears to be enjoying more mild and balmy temperatures.
In 2005 data from NASA's Mars Global Surveyor and Odyssey missions revealed that the carbon dioxide "ice caps" near Mars's south pole had been diminishing for three summers in a row.
Habibullo Abdussamatov, head of the St. Petersburg's Pulkovo Astronomical Observatory in Russia, says the Mars data is evidence that the current global warming on Earth is being caused by changes in the sun.
"The long-term increase in solar irradiance is heating both Earth and Mars," he said.
Abdussamatov believes that changes in the sun's heat output can account for almost all the climate changes we see on both planets.
Mars and Earth, for instance, have experienced periodic ice ages throughout their histories.
"Man-made greenhouse warming has made a small contribution to the warming seen on Earth in recent years, but it cannot compete with the increase in solar irradiance," Abdussamatov said.
U.N. TURNS ITS BACK ON WOMEN... SO WHAT ELSE ISN'T NEW?
The United States criticized the United Nations for refusing to list a panel it organized Tuesday entitled “State-Sanctioned Mass Rape in Burma and Sudan” on a U.N. Web site.
The U.S. Mission to the United Nations arranged to hold the panel on the sidelines of the annual two-week meeting of the Commission on the Status of Women which this year is focusing on discrimination and violence against women. It will include presentations about rape and sexual violence in both countries.
But the U.N.’s Meeting Services branch objected to the title, which was published in the U.N.’s daily journal last Thursday, because it “would be perceived as offensive to named member states,” according to a letter to the U.S. Mission obtained by the Associated Press.

How Inconvenient
The case of the Vanishing Bees
The article doesn't point to the REASON this is of concern (though the article points to profit/loss): Honey bees account for more than 1/3 of our food AND contribute to the other 2/3. So, it's a big big deal. Poland and Spain are also suffering from disappearing bees.
Systemic pesticides? Pollution? Yeah, this is something to take action on. Global Warming? It's just a way for the elite to get richer, grab more power, take away more freedom and pat themselves on the back for it.

WE SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! WE SPIT ON YOU!
oh, and nice to flame the capitol building w/graffiti.
just. proves. my. post. below. anti-american. complete crap.
and yet, the young soldier coulda/woulda/shoulda done much more:
There were a few tense moments, however, including an encounter involving Joshua Sparling, 25, who was on crutches and who said he was a corporal with the 82nd Airborne Division and lost his right leg below the knee in Ramadi, Iraq. Mr. Sparling spoke at a smaller rally held earlier in the day at the United States Navy Memorial, and voiced his support for the administration’s policies in Iraq.
Later, as antiwar protesters passed where he and his group were standing, words were exchanged and one of the antiwar protestors spit at the ground near Mr. Sparling; he spit back.
THE BIG YAWN or MY BELLY BUTTON HAS LINT

Last week, tens of thousands marched in protest of the Roe vs Wade decision. This event barely made a blimp on our nation’s newspapers and network and cable news shows.
But an anti-American, anti-democracy, anti-humanitarian-we’re-against-any-American-show -of-strength-unless-it’s-in-the-form-of-“art”- and-I-get-paid-for-it-so-you-better-not-infringe –on-my-copyright rally (let’s face it, this IS what it is) gets front and center.
BLACK HEARTS: FONDA, PENN, SARANDON, ROBBINS, MEDEA
The usual suspects say and do the usual things. They haven’t grown up, grown wiser or grown a backbone. They are so big and bad to condemn the
Oh, and can I speak to the war if I have several immediate family members who’ve VOLUNTARILY served in the Military and are serving now? Or do I need to join or make a sacrifice in some way even if I’ve exceeded the age requirement? Whose permission do I seek before I may speak? Can I speak to the crime in my neighborhood and city and what my police force should do to combat, or do I need to be a Cop to have a voice?
And while I'm on it: with all the Iraqis getting blown to smithereens by murderous thugs on both sides, wonder what they think of our il-liberal friends asking our troops to leave 'em to fend for themselves? Compassion? Phooey. The message: We care more about our asses than the fact that you're getting murdered by the dozens every day.
